DAY ACTIVITIES
Day 1 Take a flight from Kathmandu to Lhasa. Upon arrival, meet, assist and will be transferred to your hotel. Rest of your day you will be left at your own leisure for acclimatization.
Day 2 Visit the famous Potala Palace. Built mainly in the Fifth Dalai Lama's reign between 1645-1693 and remained the centre of political and religious power for the Dalai Lamas. Visit Drepung Monastery. Drepung lies about eleven kms away from Lhasa on a steep, unpaved road. Its name means "Rice Heap", after its jumble of white buildings piled up against Mt. Gyengbuwudze. Drepung was the biggest and richest monastery in Tibet and housed the Nechung, the State Oracle.
Day 3 Visit The Sera Monastery. SERA - meaning "Merciful Hail" lies on the northern edge of Lhasa. Its name denotes its rivalry with the "Rice Heap" (Drepung) since hail destroys rice. Founded in 1419 by one of Tsongkhapa's eight disciples it became famous for its tantric teachings.

In the second half of the day, visit Norbulingkha`. “The Norbulingkha”: The ‘Jewel Park’ as it is know in Tibetan, was built in the 18th century and served as the Summer Palace of the Dalai Lamas. This colourful garden landscape was the site of picnic and public gatherings. The palaces are richly decorated, creating an atmosphere of peaceful repose.

Day 4 Drive from Lhasa to Gyantse via Kampa & Karola. Gyantse, 3800mt is 94 km away from Lhasa. Gyantse’s symbol is the Kumbum Stupa, which is 32m high and contains 77 rooms and 100,000 images of the Buddha. Of the 112 chapels here, 23 are open to the public. A prince of Gyantse had it built in the style of a 108- sided mandala by craftsmen from the Kathmandu valley in 1427. It is the finest example of 15th century Newar art extant in the world.

Pelkor Chode Monastery and Gyantse fort (built atop a massive rock) are other major sights here. The road from Gyantse to Lhasa (260KM) takes you over three mountain passes: Simala (4, 380 M),Karola (5,045M) and Ghampala (4,794M). The road skirts the Yamdrok Tso Lake before twisting up the Ghampala pass from the top of which there’s a great view of the lake on one side and the Yarlung Tsangpo river on the other. The scenery and the adventure of travelling on the old caravan route make this excursion an unforgettable trip.

Vist the local market and the world famous Tibetan Carpet factory.

Day 5 Visit Kumbum Stupa & Pelkor Monastery.Gyantse Fine highways and stunning scenery on the way make that a superb trip. It also offers a comprehensive experience of Tibet in a neat itinerary. Shigatse (altitude 3,900 m) lies some 274km to the west of Lhasa and is Tibet‘s second largest city. The highway runs alongside the Yarlung Tsangpo (Brahmaputra) river passing through narrow gorges and broad river valleys. Farmers plowing their fields with Yaks, sheep grazing on the vast plains, awesome sand dunes and rocky hills in the distance are the scenic rewards of this journey. The Tashilhunpo Monastery, built in 1447 by the first Dalai Lama, is Shigatse’s most important cultural and religious site. The main chapel here contains a huge 26- meter high statue of Maitreya, the future Buddha. Other buildings contain images of Sakyamuni (the present Buddha), white and green Taras and embalmed bodies of past panchen Lamas. Towards the evening, drive to Shigatse and stay overnight at a hotel.
Day 6 Early morning visit Tashilunpho Monastery and drive back to Lhasa. Stay over night at the Hotel.
Day 7 Visit Jokhang temple & Bakhor Market. You will be left on your own to explore Lhasa. Overnight you will spent at the hôtel. <
