THE ROOF OF THE WORLD
Tibet, the roof of the world, is surely a destination apart from most in the world, the rolling hills of the high plateau and the stunning Himalayas are known to all.

Tibet Geography
Tibet covers 1.2 million sq.kms constituting one eighth of China's land mass, nearly as large as the total territories of Germany and France. With an average elevation of 4,000 meters above sea level, and over 50 peaks above 7,000 meters, Tibet has become a real paradise for mountaineers, explorers and cultural tourists..Apart from the mountains Tibet boasts of several hundred large Buddhist monasteries, temples and palaces including the Potala palace which is in Lhasa, the capital city.

Tibet History
Tibetan history can be traced thousands of years back. However, the written history only dates back to the 7th century when Songtsan Gampo, the 33rd Tibetan king, sent his minister Sambhota to India & he came back with a written Script. The 1st palace of Tibet, Yumbulakhang dates back to 124 B. C. & is in Tsedang which is in Yarlung Valley, known as the cradle of civilization of Tibet. Tibet became Buddhist in 779 A.D. with the construction of the 1st monastery in Samye and since then has always attracted scholars, adventurers & tourist alike.

Season to Visit & Clothing
The most popular time to visit Tibet is April through November. Light weight clothes are recommended during May to October and warm clothing is required for November to April.

Entering Tibet
Lhasa, the capital city of Tibet is linked by an hour’s spectacular Trans-Himalayan flight by Air China from Kathmandu, the natural gateway to this amazing land and daily flights from Chengdu. Lhasa is also connected by train from China. One can also drive in or drive out of Kathmandu to Tibet overland on a very scenic highway that retraces the old caravan trail.

Visa
One can obtain Chinese Visa from the Chinese Embassy/Consulate in their home country, however a visa for China does not entitle you to travel to Tibet. Special permit to enter Tibet is required and the same is arranged and handed over by the Tour Operator arranging your tour before entering Tibet. Tibet TRAVEL PERMIT is given only to organized groups. As per the Chinese Embassy regulation, tourist entering Tibet from Nepal must get their Chinese Visa in Kathmandu.

Altitude Sickness
This is caused by thin air at higher altitude and travelers may suffer some kind of discomfort as breathlessness and headache, nausea and dizziness before becoming acclimatized. Many hotels keep supply of oxygen bottles to the travelers if required.

Electricity
Electricity in Tibet is 220 Volts, 50 cycles.
